The successful candidate will be supervising landscaping crews for residential and commercial developments, park construction, pond landscaping and general construction works.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with and supervising landscape crews, strong organizational skills, the ability to schedule, track and perform work in a fast paced environment. The successful candidate must be able to read and interpret plans, drawings and models in order to properly construct and deliver a finished product. In addition to this you are able to read and achieve grades with a laser, and have excellent knowledge of sod installation, top soil placement, tree and shrub planting and be familiar with the associated equipment to perform these tasks successfully.

Familiarity or experience with GPS is an asset but not required.

This position is field based from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with competitive wage based on experience.

Civil Estimator

WORK DESCRIPTION

The Civil Estimator reports to the Estimating Manager. They must understand market conditions, work on hand and develop bidding strategies. They are expected to independently prepare estimates from fundamentals and historical data using our suite of comprehensive software. They are also responsible for all other team members involved in the preparation of estimates and all final bid submissions.

The Civil Estimator will be one of the client contacts for estimates finalizing contracts working in conjunction with Project Managers or in some cases the Estimating Manager. There is an expectation that the incumbent will expand on the functionality of our existing suite of software and historical data to streamline the department. They will be a strong contributor to the growth of ASL through their contacts and industry knowledge.

This position is predominately office based with work from home and field visits as required. Typical work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with overtime required, as needed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Estimating department contact for clients and vendors
  • Forecast work on hand and review with Leadership Team
  • Analysis of contract documents with recommendations for estimating strategy
  • Oversee preparation of and perform quality assurance for all bid quantities
  • Estimate jobs independently as well as review final bid submissions for all estimates.
  • Work with our team to ensure the creation of preliminary schedules at time of estimate
  • Active member of the Leadership Team providing input into overall company strategy
  • Manage and organize historical costing information

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years’ relevant experience with post-secondary education related to engineering
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Natural leader and strong public speaker
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with comprehensive estimating systems & software is considered essential

  • Must be able to lift and carry 60+ pounds.
  • Installing rebar, vapor barrier and expansion joint.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience in concrete repair/remediation.
  • Valid ‘G’ license
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
  • Knowledge of different manufacturer concrete repair products.
  • Knowledge of forming, patching and grout techniques for concrete repair/remediation
  • Knowledge of concrete repair/finishing tools, equipment.

Job Description

  • Supervise, mentor, and manage crew members (1-5 employees).
  • Track daily productions and complete employee timesheets.
  • Perform quality control inspections.
  • Order concrete, materials, and tools as required.
  • Evaluate site conditions and ensure safety toolbox talks are completed daily.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in forming/finishing concrete slabs and porches.
  • Must have valid G driver’s license with clean record.
  • Knowledge of the concrete industry – Foundations, flatwork, carpentry, mixes, repairs.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures, policies.

Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic

We are looking for a motivated and knowledgeable mechanic to join our team diagnosing and repairing late model heavy equipment. Successful candidates will have a Class D license.

This position is field based in Ottawa on a full-time basis from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with competitive wage based on experience. A well-equipped service truck is supplied for work purposes. Our shop is located near Osgoode.

Major responsibilities but not limited to the following:

  • Maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and diesel systems on a variety of equipment, as well as minor welding repairs
  • Performing diagnostic testing to identify the malfunction as well as post-repair testing to ensure it was successful
  • Preparation of accurate written repair order sheets and reports
  • Interpretation of service manuals, schematics, lube charts, repair orders, etc.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Post-Secondary Education and a Technician License (421A or 310T) is considered an asset
  • 3+ years’ relevant experience in this position
  • Caterpillar and John Deere experience would be an asset
  • Highly safety conscious and a strong technical background with high attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and organized with the ability to meet repair deadlines in a fast-paced demanding environment
  • High initiative, integrity and ability to function effectively as a team player
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance software along with basic computer skills would be an asset
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License with a clean Driver’s Abstract
